How to change your Zoom, Teams and Google Meet background (free images)

Step-by-step: add a free virtual background in Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet, plus the right size and tips so it looks natural on camera.

A tidy virtual background hides a messy room and makes you look prepared. It takes about a minute to set up in each app. You only need one image in the right shape.

1. Pick the right image

Our Zoom & Teams virtual backgrounds are made for exactly this: home offices, libraries, cafes and quiet interiors at 1920 × 1080, free for any use.

2. Zoom

  1. Open the Zoom desktop app and click your profile picture → Settings.
  2. Choose Background & Effects → Virtual Backgrounds.
  3. Click + → Add Image and select the file you downloaded.

During a meeting you can also click the arrow next to Stop Video → Choose Virtual Background.

3. Microsoft Teams

  1. Before joining, turn on your camera and open Background filters (or Effects and avatars).
  2. Choose Add new and pick your image.

In a meeting: More (…) → Video effects → Backgrounds → Add new.

4. Google Meet

  1. On the join screen, click Apply visual effects (the sparkle icon on your video).
  2. Under Backgrounds, click Add (the upload icon) and choose your image.

5. Tips that make it look real
